CODA Camp: Where Friendships Begin and Memories Are Made!

Adventure. Friendship. Laughter. A place where every CODA belongs.

Welcome to CODA Camp!!

Imagine spending time with other children and teenagers who understand what it's like to grow up with Deaf parents. A place where you can make new friends, share stories, try exciting activities and, most importantly, just be yourself!

That's what CODA Camp is all about.

Whether you've been to camp before or you're thinking about joining us for the very first time, we can't wait for you to discover what makes it such a special experience.

From exciting adventures and unforgettable moments to friendships that can last long after camp has ended, there's so much to look forward to.

Because at CODA Camp, you're not just joining an activity. You're becoming part of a community.

CODA Camp is a special opportunity for children and young people with one or more Deaf parents to come together, make friends and enjoy experiences alongside others who share a connection to the CODA community.

For some children, it may be the very first time they've been surrounded by other young people who also have Deaf parents.

For others, it's a chance to reconnect with friends they've made at previous camps and create even more memories together.

But no matter how many times you've attended, there's always something special about being together.

At CODA Camp, we celebrate our Deaf heritage, recognise the unique experiences we share and create opportunities for everyone to feel welcome and included.

And the best part?

You don't have to explain your family, know sign language or have a particular CODA story to fit in.

There's something wonderful about meeting someone who understands a part of your life without you having to explain it.

At CODA Camp, you'll meet other children and teenagers who also have Deaf parents.

You might discover shared experiences, find people with similar interests or simply make friends you love spending time with.

Some friendships begin with a conversation. Others start with a laugh during an activity.

And who knows? You might meet a friend for life!

Being a CODA can mean different things to different people.

Some of us use sign language every day. Others might not sign at all. Some grow up surrounded by Deaf culture, while others are discovering more about their CODA identity.

At camp, those differences are welcomed and celebrated.

There isn't one way to be a CODA, and nobody needs to prove that they belong.

The laughter, the adventures, the people you meet and those little moments you remember long after you've gone home.

That's what makes camp special.

We hope every young person leaves CODA Camp with wonderful memories, new friendships and a stronger sense of connection to the CODA community.

The CODA Camp Experience

So, what can you expect when you come to CODA Camp?

While every camp is different, our activities are designed to bring young people together, encourage friendships and create opportunities to have fun.

Depending on the location and programme, activities may include:

Working together, trying new things and discovering what you can achieve as a team.

Getting imaginative, expressing yourself and making something special to remember your time at camp.

Exploring new surroundings, enjoying outdoor activities and sharing exciting experiences with friends.

Getting to know other CODAs, sharing stories, laughing together and enjoying the company of people who understand your world.

Recognising our shared connections, learning from one another and celebrating the many different experiences that make us who we are.

Whatever the activity, our aim is to make CODA Camp a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone.

First Time at CODA Camp? Don't Worry!

Coming somewhere new can be exciting, but we know it can sometimes feel a little nerve-racking too.

Perhaps you're wondering whether you'll know anyone, what the activities will be like or what happens when you first arrive.

That's completely understandable!

Some children arrive feeling ready to jump straight into everything, while others prefer to take a little time to get comfortable and meet people.

There's no right or wrong way to feel.

If you're thinking about attending for the first time, you and your parents or carers can contact us to ask questions, find out more about what to expect and discuss anything that might help you feel more comfortable.

Every CODA's first camp starts somewhere. This could be the beginning of yours!

Information for Parents & Carers

We recognise that sending your child to a camp, particularly for the first time, is an important decision.

CODA Camp provides opportunities for children and young people to meet others who share similar family experiences, build friendships and enjoy activities within the CODA community.

CODA Camp is intended for hearing children and young people who have one or more Deaf parents. Age requirements and eligibility criteria will be confirmed for each individual camp.

Children do not need to know or use sign language to be part of the CODA community.

Each camp has its own activities, location and arrangements.

Before attendance, families will be provided with information about the camp programme, accommodation where applicable, what children need to bring and relevant arrangements for their stay.

We recognise that every child is different.

If your child has additional needs, communication preferences, medical requirements, allergies or anything else you feel would be helpful for organisers to know, we encourage you to discuss these with us before booking.

This allows us to consider your child's needs and explain what arrangements may be available.

The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is an important part of planning and delivering camp activities.

Families should receive clear information about the safeguarding arrangements, supervision, volunteer recruitment and relevant procedures applicable to each camp.

If you have any questions about these arrangements, please contact us before your child attends.

We want parents and carers to feel informed throughout the registration process.

Details about arrival and collection, emergency contact arrangements, communication during camp and other practical information will be provided as part of the information for each event.

If you require information in an accessible format or wish to discuss your communication preferences, please let us know.
