Being a Child of Deaf Adults doesn't stop when childhood ends. It's part of your story, your experiences and, for many of us, how we see the world.
Welcome to the Adult CODAs community at CODA UK & Ireland!
Whether you've grown up surrounded by Deaf culture, spent years moving between Deaf and hearing worlds, or have only recently discovered what being a CODA means to you, we're glad you've found us.
We're here to bring adult CODAs together, create opportunities for friendship and connection, celebrate our shared heritage and provide a community where people understand the experiences that have helped shape us.
Because no matter how old you are, it's never too late to find your CODA community.
Growing up with Deaf parents can shape our lives in all sorts of ways.
For some of us, sign language was our first language. For others, it was something we picked up along the way, or perhaps never learned at all.
Some of us grew up surrounded by Deaf friends, family and community events. Others may have spent much of their childhood feeling like the only person with Deaf parents.
Perhaps you've spent years explaining your family's experiences to others, navigating different cultures or finding yourself in situations that your hearing peers didn't always understand.
Or perhaps your experiences were completely different!
There's no single way to grow up as a CODA, and there's no single way to experience being an adult CODA either.
As we grow older, our relationship with our identity can change. We might begin to look back on childhood experiences with a different perspective, become more involved in Deaf culture, or simply appreciate the value of meeting others who share parts of our story.
Whatever being a CODA means to you, your experiences are valid, and your story matters.

There's something special about meeting another CODA.
Sometimes it's discovering that someone else grew up with the same funny family moments. Other times, it's having a conversation about an experience you've never quite been able to explain to anyone else.
And sometimes, it's simply enjoying a day out with people who understand your world without needing an explanation.
At CODA UK & Ireland, we want to create opportunities for adult CODAs to build friendships, share experiences and enjoy being part of a wider community.
Whether you're hoping to reconnect with your CODA identity, meet new people or just have a good time, we'd love you to get involved.
Who says adventures have to stop when you grow up?
Our CODA Weekenders bring adult CODAs together for opportunities to socialise, spend time with others who share similar experiences and make new memories.
It's about friendship, connection, laughter and being part of a community where you can be yourself.
From relaxed social gatherings to organised activities and community events, we want adult CODAs to have opportunities to connect throughout the year.
Whether you come along with a friend or arrive not knowing anyone, we hope you'll discover a welcoming community and some familiar experiences along the way.
Being a CODA means different things to different people.
For some, it's a strong connection to Deaf culture, sign language and community. For others, it's something they may not have thought about very much until adulthood.
You might feel completely at home in both Deaf and hearing environments, or you might sometimes feel caught somewhere between the two.
Perhaps you've reflected on the responsibilities you had growing up, the expectations others placed on you, or the ways your family experiences influenced your confidence, relationships and independence.
You may also have developed friendships, skills and perspectives that you value deeply.
There's no right or wrong way to feel about any of it.
We believe adult CODAs deserve spaces where they can explore their identities, share experiences, learn from one another and celebrate the different journeys that have brought us together.
Your CODA identity is yours to define.
You don't need to sign, have attended a CODA event before or feel a particular way about your childhood to belong.

Our experiences as CODAs don't necessarily become less relevant as we grow older. Sometimes, they simply change.
As adults, we may find ourselves thinking about family relationships, communication, caring responsibilities, parenting, identity or our connections to the Deaf community in new ways.
For some, these experiences are positive and rewarding. For others, there may be questions, frustrations or challenges along the way.
Having opportunities to connect with people who understand similar experiences can be incredibly valuable.
At CODA UK & Ireland, we believe in the importance of peer connections, shared experiences and creating welcoming spaces where adult CODAs can be themselves.
You don't have to have all the answers, and you certainly don't have to share anything you're not comfortable with.
Sometimes, just knowing that other people understand can make all the difference.
Remember what it was like growing up as a CODA? Imagine the difference you could make to a young person discovering their own CODA community.
One of the wonderful ways adult CODAs can get involved with CODA UK & Ireland is by volunteering.
Our CODA Camps bring young CODAs together, creating opportunities to develop friendships, try new experiences and spend time with others who understand what growing up with Deaf parents can be like.
Behind these experiences are people who generously give their time, enthusiasm and support to help make them possible.
By volunteering at CODA Camp, you could help create the same sense of belonging and connection that makes the CODA community so special.
Whether you're supporting activities, helping children feel welcome or simply being a positive role model, your involvement could make a meaningful difference.
And volunteering isn't limited to camp! There may also be opportunities to help with events, community projects and other activities.
If you're interested in getting involved, we'd love to hear from you.

You might have known about CODA UK & Ireland for years, or perhaps this is the very first time you've come across us.
You may have lots of CODA friends already, or you might never have had the opportunity to meet another adult who grew up with Deaf parents.
Whatever your age, your experiences or where you are in life, there's a place for you here.
Our community is built on the belief that shared experiences can bring people together, friendships can cross generations and every CODA has something valuable to contribute.
You don't need to be an expert on Deaf culture, know sign language or have a particular story to tell.
You just need to be you.
We're looking forward to meeting you.
